The Lower Seletar Stockpile Site is a 32-hectare storage facility developed by HDB as a national strategic stockpile to strengthen Singapore’s resilience against supply disruptions in construction materials. This project demonstrates rigorous design evaluation and engineering excellence, delivering a cost-efficient, high-capacity storage facility that optimises land use and introduces innovative operational approaches.
The innovative engineering solutions include:
Contiguous single stockpile arrangement to maximise the available area for storage and minimise the land space needed for internal roads and infrastructure.
Access points created at multiple levels using the existing terrain to allow easier, safer transport of construction materials and facilitate maintenance.
Sustainable soil exchange strategy which reuses on-site materials to replace soft ground, reducing imported fill and off-site disposal and carbon emissions.
Bi-directional unmanned weighbridge system that dynamically switches lanes between inbound and outbound traffic based on operational demands, improving operational efficiency.
Optimised approach of using open-cut multi-tier stockpile layout, where excavated material is stacked in stepped levels and supported by a retaining system to maintain ground stability and prevent soil movement towards the adjacent reservoir.
