Construction of Sengkang West Drive
Chye Joo Construction Pte Ltd
Category: Infrastructure

The project involved the construction of a dual 3-lane road, providing new vehicular and pedestrian connectivity for the Sengkang West region and the nearby Tampines Expressway (TPE). Despite site constraints, the complex road construction project was successfully completed through resourcefulness and adaptability.
The innovative engineering solutions include:
Integrated excavation and Earth Retaining and Stabilising Structure (ERSS) solution for deep excavations exceeding 4 metres within the Rail Protection Zone, eliminating the need for double excavation while ensuring the safety of adjacent rail infrastructure.
Diversion and reconstruction of an existing 25-metre wide canal entirely within the project footprint, avoiding additional land acquisition through careful redesign of temporary drainage systems and construction sequencing.
Sustainable tree conservation and transplantation, preserving more than half of the existing trees through close coordination with NParks and use of biostimulants to improve transplant survival rates.
Successful opening of three major junctions in a single day, achieved through extensive stakeholder engagement, public communications, and close coordination to overcome challenging site constraints.
