Silver Upgrading Programme at Chong Boon, Ang Mo Kio

The Silver Upgrading Programme (SUP) was piloted in Chong Boon for 4 precincts along Ang Mo Kio Avenues 3, 10, and Street 42 with the aim of helping seniors age comfortably in their homes and communities. Through purposeful design, the neighbourhood will be transformed into a more vibrant and inclusive space for all residents. The design concept was formulated through close collaboration with government agencies and co-creation with residents — a Community Improvement Walk (CIW) was organised to seek seniors’ feedback on design ideas. Incorporating their feedback on common spaces, the existing community spaces such as Block 440 Residents’ Corner will be transformed into a new multi-generational living space with zones for various activities.

Upgrading works will include new Community Living Rooms, a Therapeutic Garden Trail and a Multi-generational Fitness and Play Trail. The new walking trail will improve barrier-free access, extend the sheltered walkway network, and better connect existing and new amenities, with rest stops provided every 25 metres. Together, these amenities encourage residents to exercise and interact, supporting their social and mental wellbeing. Distinctive design elements such as coloured archways and a consistent colour palette also serve as visual markers, helping seniors navigate the neighbourhood with ease.
